Crisis in Olympia Becomes a Crisis in Yakima

A Call to Action . . .

Difficult times create difficult situations. Some of our most vulnerable children and youth in Central Washington will soon loose vital services as will low-income children and families.

Please consider helping. Contact your State Senators and Representatives and remind them how important these programs are for our communities.

MTCC – Medicaid Treatment Child Care:

  • A mental health day treatment program for children ages birth through 5 years who have been abuse and/or neglected.
  • 75 children currently are receiving services in Yakima.
  • The Governor’s budget will eliminate 50% of these children from service.

ECEAP - Early Childhood Education Assistance Program:

  • Preschool program free to eligible low-income children and their families.
  • Goal is to help ensure that all Washington children entering kindergarten are ready to succeed.
  • In 2009 EPIC had 363 children in ECEAP.
  • The Governor’s budget will eliminate all 3 year old children from ECEAP.

SCRC – Secured Crisis Residential Center:

  • Law enforcement bring at-risk youth who are runaways or are in a dangerous situation to the SCRC.
  • EPIC’s SCRS reconnects families with wayward teens, by helping to stabilize the relationship.
  • Over 550 youth were brought to EPIC’s SCRC in 2009 and reconnected with their families.
  • The decision package of DSHYS delivered to Governor Gregiore risks the closing of ALL SCRS in Washington State.
